October 10 – 11, 2012
Limerick, Ireland

Religion and the Public Good – Fifty Years after the Second Vatican Council

Mary Immaculate College wants to involve as many participants as possible in discussing the Conference theme through short paper (20 minute) presentations from individual Junior/Emerging Scholars or longer presentations from groups. Papers relating to the conciliar documents Dignitatis humanae and Gaudium et spes are especially welcome.

Papers must be given in English and may represent any discipline within theology or religious studies or they may be interdisciplinary.

Because of the broad theme of the Conference, we may consider offers of papers which are not primarily rooted in theology or religious studies, provided they can be shown to have some relevance to the theme which broadly speaking is the legitimate place of religion in society.

Abstracts (200 to 300 words maximum) should be sent for peer review by email attachment to Ms Eileen Daly at eileen.daly@mic.ul.ie.

Academic enquiries should be addressed to the Conference Convenor, Dr Patrick Connolly patrick.connolly@mic.ul.ie at the Department of Theology & Religious Studies.

Speakers include:

Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor (UK); Prof. Myriam Wijlens (Germany); Prof. Mathijs Lamberigts (Belgium); Dr Kevin Williams (Ireland); Dr Leon Hooper SJ (USA); Mgr Eamon Martin (Ireland); Dr Anthony Towey (UK); Ms Mary Kenny (UK), and other speakers to be confirmed.

The final date for submissions is 17 August 2012.
