Graduation Award Winners 2017
Jason Murphy, from Carrigaline, Co. Cork and PhD student, Department of Media and Communication Studies, MIC, won the
Award for Outstanding Achievement in recognition of his remarkable achievements earlier this year when he received the international prize, Prix Italia, for his compelling documentary,
No Time to Lose. Jason also won first place in the national radio awards (IMRO/BAI) for the same documentary.
Sarah Clancy from Ballingarry, Co Limerick, was awarded the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA in Liberal Arts. Sarah was also the recipient of the
French Embassy Prize for making the greatest progress in French over the course of her undergraduate studies.
Barry Finnegan from Dooradoyle, Limerick was presented with the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA in Liberal Arts.
Tristan Lienhard
from Tuamgraney, Co. Clare, was awarded the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA Early Childhood Care and Education programme.
Ciara Stepney
, from Tralee, Co Kerry, who was presented with the
MIC / Institute of Technology Tralee Medal for the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Practice. This programme is delivered jointly between MIC and IT Tralee.
Robert Moloney, from Limerick city,
was presented with the
Saint Bonaventure Trust Prize. The prize is presented to the graduate on the BA in Liberal Arts Programme who is awarded first place in Theology and Religious Studies. The Saint Bonaventure Trust was established in 2008 for the advancement of Catholic Theology at Mary Immaculate College.
Ciara Finnerty from Loughrea, Co. Galway, who was who was awarded
Bonn Uí Bhroiméil, a medal which is presented to the graduate with the highest result in Part II of the programme and who completes the Undergraduate Dissertation in Roinn na Gaeilge. Bonn Uí Bhroiméil is funded by Seán A Ó Broiméil, the first Registrar of the College.
Lillit Avetisyan from Armenia was presented with the
MIC Doctoral Award. She is currently undertaking a structured PhD in Applied Linguistics at MIC.
Brian Leavy from Limerick city was presented with the MIC Doctoral Studentship Award.
Felicity Gilbert from Kenmare, Co. Kerry was presented with the
MIC Postgraduate Award.
Louise Curtin from Doneraile, Co. Cork was presented with the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) programme. Louise was also the recipient of the Peadar Cremin Fellowship. The Fellowship is presented to the Graduate who achieved first place in Educational Research and the Dissertation on the Bachelor of Education Programme.
Aoibheann Cronin
from Midleton, Co. Cork, won the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the Professional Master of Education (Primary Teaching).
Fay Walsh, PME, from Carrigaline, Co. Cork, was awarded the Certificate in Religious Education Medal presented by Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick. The Diocese of Limerick Medal is given to a graduate on the B Ed (Primary Teaching) programmes for achieving first place in the Certificate in Religious Education.
The awards kept rolling in for
Maria Holland from Skibbereen, Co. Cork who was presented with no less than three awards including the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the Bachelor of Education in Education & Psychology programme as well as the
Kieran Burke Fellowship, which is given to the Graduate who achieved first place in Education (Educational Psychology and the Dissertation). The Fellowship is awarded by the College in memory of the late Kieran Burke, Lecturer in Psychology, 1974-1994. Maria was also awarded the
Certificate in Religious Education Medal. The Diocese of Limerick Medal is given to a graduate on the B Ed in Education and Psychology programme for achieving first place in the Certificate in Religious Education.
Stephen Stone,
from Nenagh, Tipperary, was presented with the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA Education, Business Studies & Accounting programme.
Niamh Cusack McEnery
from Corbally, Limerick, was presented with
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA Education, Business Studies & Religion Studies programme. Niamh was also the recipient of the

Aoife Tyrell
, from Loughboy, Kilkenny, was presented with the
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA Education, Irish & Business programme.
There was no shortage of accolades for
Eoghan Linehan, from Douglas, Cork, at the recent MIC conferring ceremonies where he was the recipient of not one but three awards. Eoghan, a graduate of the Bachelor of Education in Education & Psychology programme, was awarded the
Carlisle & Blake Prize from the Department of Education and Science for achieving first place in Education, Theory and Practice; he was also awarded the
Frostburg Scholarship which is presented by the College’s Faculty of Education in conjunction with the Frostburg State University in Maryland, USA. In addition Eoghan was the recipient of the
Bonn Vere Foster Award, which is presented by the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) to the Graduate who is awarded first place in Teaching Practice and Curriculum Education.
Mary Ann Ní Chrónín
, Macroom, Co. Cork, was presented with
College Gold Medal for achieving first place in the BA Education, Irish & Religion Studies programme.
Georgina Sutton
from Gorey, Co. Wexford, was also awarded a
Bonn Vere Foster Award by the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) to the Graduate on the B Ed programme (Primary Teaching) who is awarded first place in Teaching Practice and Curriculum Education.
Rebecca Aspell
, (B Ed) from Cleggan, Co. Galway and
Seán Gleasure (B Ed in Education & Psychology) from Tralee, Co. Kerry, were awarded the
West Chester University Scholarship, in order to pursue a Master’s programme in education.
The award was presented by Dr Kenneth Witmer, Dean of Education and Social Work, West Chester University, Pennsylvania.
Amy O’Donoghue, from Coonagh, Limerick, and recipient of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her excellence on track and field. Amy, a B Ed (Primary Teaching) graduate, is one of Ireland’s great future prospects in Athletics. After a glittering underage and schools career, the middle distance runner has maintained her steady progress up the ladder of success. Representing University of Limerick the Mary Immaculate College student has won the IUAA national 1500m title twice (in 2015 and 2017) setting a record on both occasions. Having dominated middle distance running at National Under-23 championships for three years in 2014, 2015 and 2016 she remains as competitive as ever moving into senior ranks. In 2016 she won a bronze medal at the Senior National Indoor Championships and took silver at this year’s Senior Championships. At International level she has represented Irish Universities in the Celtic International Track and Field Championships. She represented Ireland at Under-23 level in the 2016 European Cross Country Championships last December. We look forward to following her career in the coming years.
