Drink Driving
Never Drink and Drive
Even one drink can affect your driving, as alcohol impairs the functions of the brain. The chances of being involved in an accident increase in direct proportion to the amount of alcohol consumped. Even at the legal limitof 80mg a person is 6 times more likely to have an accident. After just one drink, hand-eye co-ordination is slowed, so it's best to avoid drinking if you're going to drive.
Penalties:
A maximum fine of €1270 and/or a maximum of 6 months imprisonment. [The amount of any fine or the period of any term of imprisonment is entirely at the discretion of the court].
Consequential disqualification applies to all drink driving convictions, the minimum period depends on the alcohol levels in individual cases.
